About the Author
Ricco Mortensen is an expert in online business and entrepreneurship, speaker and author with a uniquely European flair. He's worked his way up through the ranks - from McDonald's cashier in Denmark to one of Europe's most esteemed experts in entrepreneurship.
His strengths lie in his endearing personality, with a knack for innovative and logical problem-solving, conjuring up and executing big ideas, and sharing his ingenious business solutions with clients, students and friends.
Ricco's journey hasn't always been a bed of roses. He's travelled through hell and high water to get to where he is today, and he celebrates these challenges, because now he can teach people how to avoid making the mistakes he did.
In 1997 Ricco started his very first business - building computers and websites and online shops for clients. Some of Ricco's early entrepreneurial adventures include coming up with cutting edge solutions for various companies and developing SMS reminders for Danish bookstores, libraries, and beauty salons. He even developed a world-wide document scanning service and even a full service intranet for McDonald's.
In 2012 he began teaching online marketing at VIA University College, Denmark's largest university of applied science. Since then he's been lecturing and teaching as a visiting professor in universities across Europe and at various events.
Today, Ricco is best known for his ability to help aspiring entrepreneurs build successful online businesses. One of his greatest talents lies in online strategies and company and tax optimization, helping clients make the most profit from their hard earned money.
To date, he's educated thousands of students and consulted hundreds of clients. He even runs business bootcamps in exotic locales all over the World. The author is very passionate and informative when it comes to setting up an Online Website, designing it, promoting it,
managing various aspects of the site etc.
Both new and experienced online business owners will find tips and tricks to fine tune their site and also what to do and
what to avoid in their quest to attract a wider yet targeted potential subscribers and shoppers to their site.
I have seen such a process unraveling over the past 2 years with a very close colleague of mine - also a software engineer -
who quit his job to build his own website and business online. His technical knowledge and coding experience went a long way
in making his quest fulfilled, but there are aspects of marketing and making his site known that were very challenging to him.
This book could have been of huge help to him. And even now that his site is profitable and generates a steady stream of revenue
he was pleased to get some information from this book that I shared with him.
The book is quick to read, although the writing and English could be polished a little, however in terms of content there are
very useful recommendations in the book on several levels:
1. On the technical side of your site itself:
You will find Specific Online services recommended to help you refine your own web pages, eliminate clutter and manage
your communication with prospective visitors/customers or target-advertise your site, improve its presentation and so on.
2. With general resources of time and know-how:
The book recommends outsourcing of various aspects of your effort to professionals in relevant fields (accounting, graphic design,
writing material for you, tracking progress, etc.) with a list of online services - most of which I personally was not aware of.
The last section sums things up very nicely with a concise check-list of the steps to take and resources to use at each step
of the process.
But make no mistakes, it takes time to build recognition on the Web, and a lot of hard work to put it all together. Even after
your site becomes profitable you will encounter an endless stream of customers questions, comments, requests, and complaints,
that you will have to address day in and day out. The site will develop a life of its own that can literally redefine your own.
To that end, I think that it would have helped put things in perspective if the book also provided some imaginary scenario of
someone building a basic new web site to sell a product or service for example, with a typical timeline and costs associated
with such an endeavor to give you a feel of what the mountainous landscape ahead may look like and how much commitment
may be involved.
The book is no doubt helpful to anyone who wants to start building their own Website or those who already have a working one.

Everyday I am getting emails or seeing advertising to start your own business which I have tried a couple only to fail. They say they will be there to help and they talk in a language you can not understand. The ,"8 Mistakes Even The Most Experienced Entrepreneurs Make And How To Make Money Avoiding Them." Is a great book for anybody wanting to start their own small business or internet business.
The author doesn't sugar coat the problems and how it can be difficult to start a business, he is straightforward, explains it in a language you understand and can relate to. I thought I start a web page put a few items on the page people will come but there is so much more to it.
You need a strategy, a plan, details, research along with how to attract people to your site, how to use search engines so you are found, and so much more. That this book really helps you to understand and in turn helps you build that business.
Out of the eight mistakes listed and discussed the one I found to be interesting and able to relate to was the leaky bathtub. Without the knowledge, creativity, proper placement and use of your web page nobody is going to order, sign up. But using the tools correctly they will which will build your business and clients.
When I look back I see how my site was boring, hard to use and follow and that's why it went no where it's not that people didn't like my products I offered to much on my main page and didn't really explain or have a mission and goal for them.
This book is a very easy to understand concept that walks you through the mistakes you make and how to correct them what avenues to explore and that you have to put in some time but in the end it would be worth it.
I am very pleased with this book and I recommend for anyone wanting to or is running their own online business. I did receive a complimentary kindle edition and I am providing my honest unbiased opinion.

great buy for all entrepreneurial people longing for success

This book is a great introduction, not just to the eight most common mistakes committed by online entrepreneurs, but also to the subject itself. Throughout, we are introduced to all subjects in relation to getting your online business thriving and succeeding in the global competition at hand.
The author takes great care of making this an easy-to-use introduction, further empathized by frank and familiar language (“You don’t want to be that guy or gal, do you?” (p. 49)) and well-used cases.
The basic and introductory feel, does leave you with the impression that this is a great teaser for an upcoming book.
The book places itself as a great start out help that will leave you with a sense of direction and at-hand solutions to common questions. That said, the book does speak to people with the initial experience already under the belt. You are left with a sense that this book is an introduction but not necessarily the full explanation. I look very much forward to that one.
Two elements of especial interest:
The whole question of personas is a great way to analyze and systematize ones approach to different clients. The author goes to great lengths to make the introduction and treatment of the different personas very approachable and easy to use and apply to every situation in a business environment.
Another element that did draw my attention was the whole question of emails and online business. No reason to deny that fact that a lot of online business could take a leaf out of this book regarding how to welcome and keep people returning by the amount of newsletters and subjects covered.
We all know these mailing lists; from one sender you are just interested in the newest trends and products, from others - just great offers. From some you want to be intrigued from others just informed to the point. Not many businesses in general seem to understand that we all request different approaches to their specific business. The read here is a great inspiration to the thoughts you, as a business owner, need to sort out and systematize.
One point where the author seems to take the easy way out is with the question of users that un-sign a mailing list: “They won’t purchase your product or service anyway.”(p. 72) Couldn’t the reason be that the user just find it stressful to get a new mail at such a pace, and that the user finds it to be a good way to destress by un-signing such a mailing list? Most users are different, as the author points out with the many personas, and not all like the hassle and just want time to come around to buying a service or product. It may take a greater effort and be more time consuming, but business is business – it’s a relation.
This book maps out a very good way to sort out focus points and get the business back on track for success. All in all an easy and manageable progressive plan that is bound to be attractive to all in the entrepreneurial start-up business.
Look forward to the next book, which will hopefully treat the subjects presented here in even more detail!
