This was an amazing story...you never know what's going on behind the scenes of celebrities...Tashera you have such a sweet soul and God has truly blessed you..I hate that you had to go through that life but you came out on top...your story really has touched my heart and I'm glad you were able to share it with all of us...

I can not believe this book made it to print. I find it amazing that this was never proofread!! I started thinking DMX himself must have written this while he was high or something!!! Her story is probably a good read but you simple get tired of trying to make out what is being communicated. Thank God this is just a kindle copy....if it were an actual paperback book, I'd be looking for a refund for sure!!

I hate to hear when "men" treat women bad. Especially neglectng their responsibilities as a father. I'm so happy Tashera was finally strong enough to let go and let God. I almost didn't pick this book after hearing the reviews. Instead of focusing on the grammatical errors, focus on her story. I wish her the best.

Ten Boom co-wrote her autobiography, The Hiding Place with Americans JOHN AND ELIZABETH SHERRILL who have edited Guidepost magazine and have authored several books.

A Jew's View--Thank you

I was absolutely absorbed by this book. I looked forward to every time I picked it up to read. I must start by saying that I am Jewish and absolutely do NOT share the religious views of Corrie Ten Boom. But, this story is so engrossing and moving that my religious views were irrelevant. This is the remarkable story of a remarkable family that literally laid their lives out to save Jews in Holland during WWII. These are people I wish I could hug. Don't be put off by the religious views expressed. Those views caused heroic people to show mercy and empathy in the most brutal period in recent history. The views were not preachy. I only wish that I could do something good for any person that would give respect for the wonderful people in this story.

this account does an amazing job of describing step-by-step

Amongst the countless survival stories of WWII, specifically surrounding Nazi Germany and its occupation in Europe, this account does an amazing job of describing step-by-step, just how slowly and insidiously the takeover of Holland and other countries crept into the victims' lives, changing them or eliminating them forever.

The author, Corrie Ten Boom, above all else, kept her faith and her love for humanity in a sacred place within her, allowing her to survive and recover from the innumerable violations of her dignity, and the witnessing of endless, horrific suffering by herself and others. She was also able to summon and direct her inner strength, enough to spread the word of faith in a higher power, specifically Jesus and the Bible, to thousands of people worldwide, following her unspeakable ordeal which lasted several years. Her experience included losing most of her cherished family members, as well as many friends dear to her.

For the author to, in such detailed fashion, recall and record this part of her life, is a huge testament to human endurance and resiliency, with deep pain being such an important part of her story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who may have even a faint interest in this chapter of history, with hopes of history never repeating itself.

I was glad to find this book still in print

This true story of Corrie's family life and living in Holland and thinking that they would be protected from the war in Germany. In the beginning it's peaceful until the ugly part of life took over in her town. The decision to hide the Jews was a big cross to bear and they finally were found out and taken to the camps. The terrible treatment they had to endure, the lack of warm clothing and having to stand outside for hours etc. After a few months Corrie's sister died and later Corrie was given permission to leave. She was the only one in her age group that was given permission to leave the camp by God's design and the next day all the women her age were euthanized. It's a hard book to read but the writer keeps the reader moving on because the second book, Tramp For the Lord explains why she was directed by God for humankind.

Grade 8-12 Brian Robeson, 13, is the only passenger on a small plane flying him to visit his father in the Canadian wilderness when the pilot has a heart attack and dies. The plane drifts off course and finally crashes into a small lake. Miraculously Brian is able to swim free of the plane, arriving on a sandy tree-lined shore with only his clothing, a tattered windbreaker, and the hatchet his mother had given him as a present. The novel chronicles in gritty detail Brian's mistakes, setbacks, and small triumphs as, with the help of the hatchet, he manages to survive the 54 days alone in the wilderness. Paulsen effectively shows readers how Brian learns patienceto watch, listen, and think before he actsas he attempts to build a fire, to fish and hunt, and to make his home under a rock overhang safe and comfortable. An epilogue discussing the lasting effects of Brian's stay in the wilderness and his dim chance of survival had winter come upon him before rescue adds credibility to the story. Paulsen tells a fine adventure story, but the sub-plot concerning Brian's preoccupation with his parents' divorce seems a bit forced and detracts from the book. As he did in Dogsong (Bradbury, 1985), Paulsen emphasizes character growth through a careful balancing of specific details of survival with the protagonist's thoughts and emotions. Beware for Younger Readers!

I am a grandmother with small granddaughters, one of whom is a very precocious reader. She is in first grade, and I ordered Hatchet with another book, which she fortunately became interested in. In a fit of boredom, I picked up the book that was left at my house. I was tremendously relieved she had not taken Hatchet to begin it, without the knowledge of me or her parents! I do not think it would have been appropriate for her, at the age of 7. I will be placing it in an unobtrusive location, to wait for her to read when she is a couple years older.

I find it interesting that not a single review I found mentioned at the start, when the pilot of the small aircraft dies mid-flight, the process is very specifically detailed--the odor, the vision of his face as he dies. Additionally, Brian is angry about his mother, and her extra-marital affair--this book is significantly more explicit about adult problems than most children's literature that is written for 3rd and 4th graders. I thought, the Force was with me! I cannot imagine my granddaughter reading this book now. The lesson I learned, is to peruse books I'm not familiar with before I hand them over--I am writing about a little girl whose mother read portions of The Yearling to her at age 5, when she begged and pleaded, and sat attentively throughout! (my daughter said she "edited" as she read the book) For younger readers, I'd advise parental supervision, and discussion of the issues detailed in The Hatchet, if your child is ready for it.

First in an adventure series with great appeal for middle-school, high-school,
and older readers. This is the kind of book that continues in your dreams
once you have put it down. Great for reluctant readers, as well as ESL learning
Gary Paulsen is never consdescending or obviously trying to simplify his
stories. They are simply remarkable at all levels. This would be a great
gift or prize for any boy or girl. Adults seem equally enthusiastic about
this unforgettable book. It does not involve sex, seduction, or ramance,
except the romance of the wild and breathtaking adventure and survival
skills. This story inspires readers to think about our
innate intelligence to survive under difficult circumstances.
A fast-paced, but thoroughly modern Robinson Crusoe adventure.

A great lesson on perseverance

I read this book in elementary school back in 1995-1996. I'm re-reading it and so far it has held up well.

As a kid, this book gave me an appreciation for the outdoors and surviving in the world when the odds are stacked against you. A great lesson on perseverance.

It also instilled an idea in my mind to not take everyday commodities and experiences for granted.

I loved Gary Paulsen's books as a child, and the other Hatchet books in this series are great, too. I just discovered writing this review that there is now a 5th book.

Our intention in writing this book has been to provide a compre­ hensive yet widely accessible overview of the main streams of thought within MCDA. We aim to provide readers with sufficient awareness of the underlying philosophies and theories, understanding of the practi­ cal details of the methods, and insight into practice to enable them to implement any of the approaches in an informed manner. As the title of the book indicates, our emphasis is on developing an integrated view of MCDA, which we perceive to incorporate both integration of differ­ ent schools of thought within MCDA, and integration of MCDA with broader management theory, science and practice.

This book is not only a theoretical document, but also provides good coverage of practical issues. It can be recommended to a broad audience, ranging from those in academic institutions to practitioners, as well as those who are interested in finding information on multiple criteria approaches, methods and techniques. It is an excellent book in the main area of Operations Research and Decision Analysis, with a special focus on Multiple Criteria and is suitable for undergraduate and graduate students.' José R. Unusually Disappointing Book

On the positive site, the authors have done a good job researching the literature relative to MCDA and are careful and thorough with their citations. However, my disappointment stems from (1) the production of the book itself is unusually poor (illegible figures, splotchy gray in back of text boxes making it difficult to read, varying typography) - it looks like it was produced on a Xerox machine by a secondary school student, (2) over-reliance on others' work (Keeney is cited so many times that it begs the question, why do we need this work when we can go to Keeney?), (3) over-use of acronyms (makes the book very difficult to read), and (4) infrequent and inconsistent use of examples. The net result of this is a lack of clarity of presentation. My rating would be 1 star but for the diligence of summarizing others' research and work. That said, I recommend going to the source (Keeney) and avoiding this expensive and poorly produced book.

Great book for an interesting field of study

This book is definitely written from the scientific point of view. I've studied the military decision making process a bit and this book gave me not only a better understanding of that particular process but also that other exist and when/where they might be applicable.

If you are interested at all in the study of decision analysis this is a good book. It isn't always an easy read but scientific books rarely are.

I used this while writing my master's thesis and found it very helpful.

It would also be helpful if you were designing software algorithms related with this area of study.

Extremely interesting and useful for MCDA novices and advanced students and practioners alike. Well structured such that issues of non interest to user can be skipped without affecting text flow. Nicely balanced between theoretical under-pinning and practical examples alike.
